He is the present owner and Principal of The Breakspeare Clinic and a specialist in Manual Manipulative Physiotherapy and Sports Physiotherapy. He has been the Senior Governing Body Physiotherapist to the British Bobsleigh and Bob-Skeleton Team and attended the Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, where the Bobsleigh Team won a Bronze Medal, and Salt Lake City where the Bob-Skeleton team won a Bronze medal and Torino, Italy where the women’s skeleton silver medal was won by Great Britain’s Shelley Rudman. More recently Gordon has been appointed Head of Physiotherapy for the Canadian Long Track Speed Skating Team up to and including the Vancouver Olympic Games.

In addition he sits on the British Olympic Association Physiotherapy Committee and Physiotherapy Steering Group.

He has acted as a consultant to several professional football teams including Bolton Wandrerers FC and Liverpool FC and as the Chief Physiotherapy Advisor to the Quantum Consulting Group that deals with people injured through Motor Vehicle Accidents.

He acts as a Clinical Supervisor to students on Outpatient and Rehabilitation placements from Brunel, Nottingham and Southampton Universities and lectures to postgraduate physiotherapists in the field of Spinal Manual Therapy. Furthermore, he is a Football Association Sports Injury Lecturer and course validation officer.

Gordon has a special interest in spinal/pelvic/hip biomechanics and has been working closely with the Oxford DSP/SPD group as well as his International Athletes. Finally, he is a Manual Handling Trainer consulting for Junghienrich UK Holdings.

Paul Wray qualified from Brunel University College (London) with a BSc. (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 1995.

After a short spell at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, he relocated to Gloucestershire and worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon.

During a six-year period at Swindon he worked mainly in the musculoskeletal outpatient department treating a variety of conditions, working closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

His work also involved running a physiotherapy clinic in a local General Practice. He started working part-time at The Breakspeare Clinic in May 2000 but now works full-time after leaving the NHS in April 2002.

Paul also completed a sport Science Degree in 1998 and has been able to use that knowledge to help rehabilitate clients back to normal function and sporting activity following injury. He also gained an MSc. in Exercise and Health Behaviour at City University, London.

He is a qualified practitioner of acupuncture for pain relief and acts as a clinical supervisor to Physiotherapy students from Southampton and Bristol universities.

Paul’s main professional interests are in manual therapy and sports injuries/rehabilitation.

His social interests now include golf, gardening and photography, since retiring from competitive athletics where he represented Great Britain at pole-vaulting

John Clinkard Dip RGRT MCSP HPC

John Clinkard

John Clinkard graduated in 1976 after 3 years full time study at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

He then commenced 2 years working at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, specializing in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. From here he took the opportunity to work at Farnham Park Rehabilitation Centre which gave him the chance to work for John G.P. Williams and specialize in Sports Medicine.

After 2 years John joined Fulham Football Club as 1st Team Physiotherapist

and continued to work in professional football for 24 years with lengthy spells at Everton Football Club, Oxford United and, more recently, Wimbledon.

Although John is a sports injury specialist he has attended various courses on mobilization and manipulation of the spine and pelvis and has a special interest in ‘Pilates’ and core stability.

Christine Ball GRAD DIP PHYS MCSP HPC

Christine Ball

Christine Ball qualified from the Leeds School of Physiotherapy in 1983 having gained a distinction in anatomy and physiology. She also had a one-month elective in the USA specialising in outpatients. After qualifying, Christine completed her basic rotations at Treliske Hospital, Truro, Cornwall. She then had a career break whilst raising her family.

In 1991-2 Christine had an opportunity to work in Suva Fiji and this gave her a wide range of experience. In 1994 Christine returned to NHS work in the North Hampshire Hospital, gaining specialist experience in respiratory therapy.

Following this she worked as a Community Physiotherapist, which initially involved working in a multi-disciplinary team for the elderly and mentally ill. This then led onto general community physiotherapy and out patient work in a GP surgery, which still continues today.

In 1998 Christine set up her own private clinic in Andover where she specialises in the treatment of sports injuries, road accidents and industrial injuries.

Christine has a specialist interest in manual therapy for the spine, pelvis and lower limb rehabilitation. She is a qualified practitioner in Acupuncture for pain relief and is also a qualified Pilates mat work instructor.

Kate Badger BSc (Hons) MCSP HPC

Kate Badger

Kate graduated in 1999 from Coventry University with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. After working in the NHS for two an half years she specialized in musculoskeletal work at The Wingfield Hospital in Gloucester where she worked closely with the orthopaedic consultants and sport injury specialists.

In June 2004, Kate joined The Breakspeare Clinic and now works fully in private practice. She is physiotherapist for the local rugby team and also Warwick and Stratford Racecourses for the jump jockeys. She is also a keen runner and triathlete.

Ruari Scott

Ruari Scott qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in London with a First Class Degree. He moved to Edinburgh to further his experience, he worked both in general practice and also within the Occupational Health Unit for BP Scotland.

Ruari has been a guest lecturer in Osteopathic Practice at The University of Edinburgh, and is currently employed as principle medical lecturer for the College of Naturopathic Medicine Edinburgh.


Ruari has now returned to his home country and works as a general osteopathic practitioner in the Wychwoods, Abingdon and Didcot. He has a particular interest in occupational health ergonomics. He is also interested in forging ever stronger links between Osteopathy and orthodox medical practice, and in working in close collaboration with many GPs and physiotherapists in Oxfordshire.

Gary Edwards

Sports & Remedial Massage therapist

Gary Edwards

Gary Edwards is a freelance sports and remedial massage therapist based in the Cotswolds. He regularly treats the First Team Squad of a Premiership Rugby Club - Worcester Warriors, working closely in conjunction with the team physiotherapists. He is also working with other elite athletes and leading
3-day event horse riders.

The techniques that are used are principally are:-
General massage strokes, deep friction, neuromuscular technique (NMT), muscle energy technique (MET), soft tissue release (STR) and connective tissue massage (CTM).

Gary has been interested in sport from an early age, representing the county at schoolboy level between the ages of 9 and 18 in athletics football and cricket. He played for Cheshire 2nd XI until the age of 21 and while in the Royal Marines Commandos represented 42 Commando Rugby Team. He believes that these experiences give him a special understanding of his patient and their needs together with the problems and challenges of fitness and condition.

Charlie Greig LSSM.Dip and Remedial Massage

Charlie Greig qualified from the London School of Sports Massage before going on to complete the F.A. Diploma in the Treatment and Management of Sports Injuries.

During this time he has worked exclusively for Oxford United as Youth and Reserve Team Sports Therapist, where he has treated and cared for players from 16 years to 1st team level.

Together with this Charlie has provided injury clinics for the Centre Of Excellence players whose ages range from 8 – 16 years, dealing with their acute injuries and also the over use injuries that come with growing up in a sporting environment.

This has given him a unique insight – the development of players from their first tentative steps on the playing field to the cut and thrust of professional football.

As part of his continuous professional development, Charlie has recently completed a Spinal Mobilisation Course with the Society of Sports Therapists.

Chris Dawkins, who has been a GP since 1990, strongly believes in treating illness naturally and identifying the cause of disease. He graduated in medicine in 1986 and trained in acupuncture, homeopathy and nutrition. Dr Dawkins is a committee member of the British Society for Ecological Medicine and was previously a GP Tutor at Oxford University Medical School. He now works privately at The Breakspeare Clinic.

Michi is Japanese and has lived in the UK for more than 10 years. She graduated with an honours degree in traditional Chinese Medicine from Middlesex University. As part of the 5 year course she has also studied Western medicine and has worked in hospitals in Beijing, China

Helena Bradwell

Helena started her career as a professional dancer/singer in television and musical theatre. She was introduced to Pilates when recovering from a prolonged injury. She trained in Oxford and attended sessions with Alan Herdman at his London Studio who was originally introduced to Pilates by Joseph Pilates himself.

Cindy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education specialising in Exercise Science from Texas A&M University in the United States. She is a registered Clinical Technologist with Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.

For the past 20 years she worked in clinical environments at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in the United States, Guy's & St. Thomas Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre specialising in paediatric and adult orthopaedics. She also participated in national research projects in

association with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and worked in cardiac/cardiac rehabilitation in the United States.

She trained in the Cotswolds for Clinical Aromatherapy and in the United States at the Upledger Institute Inc. for LDT.
