It treats the person rather than the named illness - and by doing so aims to strengthen the whole system. Like cures likeThe main principle on which homeopathy is based states that a substance that causes a set of symptoms when given to a healthy person can relieve these same symptoms when caused by disease. Homeopaths view symptoms as a manifestation of the body’s attempts to heal itself. By using the principle of similars, or “like cures like”, homeopathy is thought to promote the body’s self-heal ability. Just a little = a potent mixHomeopathic remedies are made from a wide variety of plant, animal and mineral sources, and prepared in a particular way called potentisation, a process of repeated dilution and succussion. The more a remedy is potentised, the higher the homeopathic dose. Because of the highly dilute form that remedies take, they have no toxic effects and do not interact with other forms of medication, herbal or nutritional supplements. What to expectHomeopathy requires a realistic timeframe, and everyone is different. Generally, people with short-term problems can expect to come for only one or two appointments. Patients with long-standing issues normally come for between three and eight sessions. Appointments are usually at monthly intervals.
