Physiotherapy WHAT IS IT?
A Chartered Physiotherapist treats injuries and diseases by correcting and improving the body’s own natural healing mechanisms. A wide variety of techniques are used to help muscles, joints, nerves and other soft tissues work to their full potential.
Why use Physiotherapy?
The modern Chartered Physiotherapist uses a wide range of skills including mobilisation, manipulation, massage, exercises and acupuncture, sometimes aided by the use of sophisticated electronic equipment – all designed to help in restoring function, relieving pain and promoting healing.
Preventative measures are very important in physiotherapy. The Physiotherapist will spend time teaching you how to avoid recurrence of your problems.

How Physiotherapy is used
Chartered Physiotherapists undertake a thorough assessment of each problem. This will involve a full case history and examination usually lasting up to 60 minutes. Taken together with an understanding of your work, rest and recreational activities, this will help identify your problem(s), which in some circumstances may be situated some distance from where the pain is felt.
It also ensures that the diagnosis and treatment will relate to you and your whole lifestyle.
After full consultation with you and, where appropriate, with your doctor, the Chartered Physiotherapist will decide on the best form of treatment. Follow-up treatment sessions will normally last up to 30 minutes.
It is always advisable to seek treatment as soon as possible. Early treatment can mean a quick recovery, with less time off work, activities and daily tasks.
